Rhythm, Percussion, Drumming, Vocals, Games
Inclusive / IDD Friendly / For Ages 18 and Up
New Jersey Based / Formerly "Drum Garden"
by EarthIntern Media aka Sue George

Workshops are about the power of rhythm; the space for fun, to learn and to make "mistakes" judgment-free, to experiment with sound (or silence!), to grow confidence, to share skills, to build community, to grow social skills, and to use your voice through drumming!

But my service to you continues - after the workshops! Participants are "heard" and "seen," and supporting hobbyist and wellness media is created based on questions, interests, and input.

You don't have to think about wellness to do wellness. Come on out!

I dabbled in some music-making and songwriting, and I had a music and singing background for about  17 years.

Drumming was always something that I wanted to do. Yes, I tapped on things and made some rhythms,. I mean, you don't need drums - to drum. Just listen to some amazing street performers using buckets and sticks, pots and pans, garbage cans, etc. No one needs to spend money to make music. Years ago, I didn't quite understand the innate power of rhythm (and how it's "all around") like I do now. But I really did desire to create the sounds that only come from skins - from crafted hand drums and drum kits. So, I got up the nerve to go to an outdoor drum circle (Ocean County Drum Circle) with just my one drum - a frame drum. I mingled, I learned, I played, and I got hooked! It wasn't scary at all, and people were happy to share knowledge.

I ordered my first travel djembe from a reputable seller. (Djembes are most common at drum circles.) I went to lots of drum circles and drumming workshops, met really neat people, and spent a couple hours a day learning from online teachers.

Anyway, I caught a happy kind of sickness and moved full speed ahead toward becoming a facilitator - with my own wellness twists. Less than a year later, I had already acquired close to 40 types of hand drums. Some were from friends that I had made - because they knew what I wanted to do with them (facilitate for special needs groups - first). Some were ordered and picked up at Walgreens where employees would sigh whenever they saw me walk in with my pick-up wagon. This is how it happened...

I was going to so many drum circles (a favorite was Soul Circle, outside The Saw Mill) that I had at one point decided to take one of my adult daughters with me. She has Angelman Syndrome, a neuro-developmental disorder, which can make events a little tricky sometimes. She's not big on indoor events, so I took her to a large, outdoor drum circle first (possibly now called Asbury Drum & Dance - at Free Culture Zone ).

Well, she not only loved it, but she drummed and kept a rhythm! We had no idea she could do that. That's when the power of rhythm really hit me! I saw that happy face, heard that steady rhythm, and worked a little faster.

I found a bunch of online resources for facilitating drum circles. But I was super happy to have found Jim Donovan M. Ed. (jimdonovantrainings) who certified me just right for the job. What an awesome and responsive teacher!

I had my drums and small percussion, I had enough training to get started and make some mistakes then do better next time. So I got right to booking drum circles for adults with challenges groups, to creating supporting media for my participants, and to working with my own daughter more too. My first booking was with PCTR in Toms River (pictured), and my next was with a day program (see video). And I loved every minute of it. I especially loved providing the stuff for people who have skills - but have simply not been able to use them for some time! I decided that if there was nothing else career-wise that I ever do, packing up my car and doing this would be just fine!

(I regret that most groups did not allow photos or videos, but I do have just a few.)

I reached out and facilitated for some social services programs too (see pic below). Loved it! I mean, I loved it! From questions and curiosities of my all my groups' participants, I further developed Drum Garden Resource Pages to further support wellness and hobbyist interests.

But... my first go-around of workshops was short-lived - for only a couple years. Lets just say I learned some things about business  - the hard way. It was still really great while it lasted.

I continued to work on business knowledge, writing another book, drumming (especially with congas - my big love), making some videos and re-working my wellness courses, taking more courses (especially in sound healing), and even making, recording, and learning editing and publishing of music. I just started taking my time, really enjoying, and being patient.

It's not my nature to give up. I take a step back sometimes, work on other stuff, and maybe regroup.

In 2026, I'm back with Well-Rhythm Plus! And this time, I'm thinking way out of the box! Rhythm is all around. Come on out!
